1. Utah's two medical marijuana bills clear committee and head to full Senate
Two separate committees each approved medical marijuana legislation for the Senate floor Thursday. One bill, SB73, seeks to legalize access to whole plant marijuana, but only for those suffering from certain illnesses. A more conservative bill, SB89, supports only the use of cannabidiol, an oil that is low in THC, the hallucinogenic chemical in cannabis, and high in CBD, a chemical believed to help fight seizures.
2. Armed robbery suspect faces charges in 7 incidents, could be charged with more
A man arrested last week made his first court appearance yesterday, facing aggravated robbery charges in connection to seven robberies in the last two months. He is also under investigation for seven other robberies in multiple jurisdictions.
3. Volunteers help inner-city Ogden get free health services
THRIVE, a full-time volunteer organization run by college-aged members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, helped about 500 Ogden-area residents receive free medical, dental and optometry services. The service was geared towards low-income Ogden residents Wednesday and Thursday.
4. Weber Fire District boosts its paramedic service for rural areas
Weber added a new paramedic unit in the fire district’s northwestern coverage area, revealing Rescue 61 on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The Weber Fire District has been trying to acquire funding for the new unit since 2013.
5. Weber State knocks off Northern Colorado 64-54
Jeremy Senglin’s game-high 22 points led the Wildcats to a sound win over the Bears Thursday night, snapping their four-game winning streak.
