Healthy living: Boost energy levels - thrive, don’t just survive

An energy crisis is affecting nearly twenty percent of Americans. The type of energy people lack from daily activities is growing, so much so, it’s interfering with people’s lives. It seems clarity, fatigue, low energy levels, plus poor concentration, irregular sleep patterns and being over-weight are common symptoms associated with the lack of energy. These symptoms can be a major contributor to diabetes, obesity, some cancers and heart disease.
To help increase energy levels for long-term results and a healthy lifestyle, there are some simple ways to change failing patterns and improve health by boosting one’s energy daily. The most common first step is to reduce the overall amount of sugar consumed. Sugar does boost energy levels for a short time only, then when your blood sugar level drops the sluggish feelings return. When sugar is substituted for alternative sweeteners, eliminated altogether or drastically cut back over time you’ll beat the sugar habit, naturally build up energy levels reduce excess weight gain and the risk of diabetes.
Sugar alone isn’t the only culprit; simple carbohydrates also affect blood sugar levels by spiking them only to have them drop suddenly. White rice, white potatoes, pastas, sugary drinks, candies, chocolate and an over consumption of fruits can temporarily spike sugar levels. It is better when trying to increase energy levels by substituting foods that minimize sugar surges such as brown rice, sweet potatoes or yams, whole grain pastas, sugar-free drinks or waters, sugar-free candies and chocolates.
Other ways to boost energy levels is by drinking more water. Water helps eliminate sluggish feelings, reduces dehydration and improves cognitive abilities, energy and moods. Fatigue is caused by a lack of energy and a contributing factor to being over-weight. Taking up some sort of exercise will naturally increase the release of endorphins in the brain, which will over time make one feel like they have more energy to burn while benefiting from some weight loss the longer the workouts continue.
Changing your dietary consumption will also help boost energy levels as one eats more healthy foods. Controlling portions will help reduce excess weight too. Eat a balanced diet that provides lots of vitamins, minerals and nutrients into your system. Include more fruits and vegetables that are an array of colors. There are phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables and each type has different levels of needed supplements the body needs to create more energy and reduce the sluggish feelings, fatigue and boost the mind’s clarity and help readjust sleep patterns when a regimen is followed daily.
Seek out a friend, co-worker or family member to make the giant step to a better lifestyle. Trying to change a diet, exercise and be your own cheerleading team usually backfires. When there is someone following the same patterns and changes in their life as you are, you both can compare notes, progress and complement each other to try harder, exercise longer and deter away from foods that are harmful, can cause more fatigue, increase sugar levels or cause weight gain. Now that you have some simple ways of adjusting life’s basics needs and a partner to stand by you every step of the way your health will slowly, over time change dramatically making you both feel better and a lot more energetic too.
